Stanmer_Park_consultationBrighton & Hove City Council, working with key stakeholders for the Estate has developed a long term draft Masterplan with the aim of restoring and protecting Stanmers’ historic buildings and landscape, enhancing its natural features, addressing any issues and making it more accessible to all.

They are running a six week consultation to gauge opinion and shape a future bid to fund the restoration project to the Heritage Lottery Fund and other funding bodies. For more details visit: http://bit.ly/P0OyTL

tree planting - childrenThe regular planting days in Hollingdean Park are on the last Sunday of the month – the next session is 30th March when we will be planting trees. Meet in the park at 11.00am – stay for as long as you can.

All welcome – children must be supervised.

food wasteWednesday 26th Feb, 12:30pm–2:30pm  at Hollingdean Community Centre.  Are you ready to zero in on food waste? Attend this free session to gain some expert knowledge on tackling food waste.

Expect engaging activities and training to help you tackle everyday food waste, as well as inspiring recipe demonstrations and refreshments to keep you going. More information on the Community Centre website.

car club and logoThe Personalised Travel Planning (PTP) Team, based at Hollingdean Community Centre, have some free one-year City Car Club Membership Vouchers, plus £10.00 free drive time, to give away to residents who would be interested in giving City Car Club a go.

small-tree-in-handHollingdean with Brighton Permaculture Trust were successful in their application for extra funding to plant 100 trees in Hollingdean.

So on Sunday 16th February 11.00am we will be meeting at St Richards Church, Beal Crescent, to start this exciting project.

Come and join us to plant a tree (and help offset your carbon footprint!). Children welcome; the Community Chef will be providing us with yummy food to keep up our energy levels. This day will be run as part of the ‘Roots’ movement – this means our partners, a village in Kenya, will also be planting trees.

Something of an environmental theme for next week’s events at the Hollingdean Community Centre:

Green-LivingWednesday 22 January – Free screening of “The Clean Bin Project”. A funny, inspiring short film about a couple’s decision to live without producing waste. The film will be followed by top tips, Q&A and a raffle. Doors open 6:30pm (film at 7pm). More info and a trailer on the Community Centre’s website.

Thursday 23 January  – The official launch of the Real Food (Hollingdean) project.  Come along and find out more about the project, learn about permaculture and the design process, and find out about our first gardening session.
