Parents should carry a torch and make sure everyone is dressed up warm for the walk to Stanmer Park, where this year’s King & Queen will lead a torchlit procession from the old orchard to the Home farm orchard. Please make your own arrangements for transport home from Stanmer Park. If you wish to meet at Stanmer, make your way to the old orchard for 6pm. Map at

Wassailing (or Howling, as it’s known in Sussex) is the custom of blessing the apple trees and bee hives to ensure a bountiful crop in the forthcoming season. This year, the Brighton Mummers, a theatre group based at Coachwerks are leading the Howl – a family friendly event involving the recital of the old wassail words, the toasting of the trees and the waking of the roots through the use of banging pots and the firing of their home made cannon!

Wassailing 2011Starting at the community orchard behind the Sure Start, they’ll Howl the trees awake, then invite everyone to join them on the walk over the hill to the Old Orchard at Stanmer Park, where two children will be crowned King Bean and Queen Pea, and lead a torchlit procession to the Home Farm Orchard, where there will be more merriment, bonfire, hot spuds, music, singing and good times. Winter Nights in Hollingdean FlyerHollingdean Community Centre is hosting a series of FREE workshops leading to a SPECTACULAR STREET PARADE on 18th December.  The project is being led by award-winning theatre company The Karavan Ensemble. Open to all ages and abilities… come and be part of this amazing adventure and help us to light up Hollingdean in the chilly weeks of winter leading up to Christmas!

The workshops start on Sat 26 November and run over the next few weekends up until the parade itself.  For more details see the Hollingdean Community Centre website or download the flyer as a PDF.

All workshops and final performance will take place at Hollingdean Community Centre, Thompson Road.

This could be as an actor or part of our production team.
