Anyone living in the 01273 telephone area can take part in the Artists Open Houses (AOH) festival as an Open House venue.  Registration for the May 2014 AOH festival opens 3 December 2013 and closes 5 February 2014.  ‘Early Bird’ cheap rates are available until 6 January (at 2012 prices).

Registration costs can be shared by the all the artists exhibiting in one venue, so taking part in AOH can be affordable for everyone. To find out details of how to join a trail, or register as an independent venue, visit


Over three weekends – 30 November to 15 December – you can follow the Christmas Artists Open Houses trail to discover unique and unusual gifts for friends, family or yourself.  Many of the houses have activities for children… and there may be mulled wine and mince pies on offer!

Artists Open Houses in Hollingdean are:

  • The Ceramic House at 75 Stanmer Villas
  • The Cicada House at 30 Stanmer Villas
  • Chevalier House at 20 Stanmer Park Road
  • Gifts for you at 112 at 112 Hollingdean Terrace

The planters in the Dip and Crestway are in place but the next stage is to get some public art in these areas. There is a small amount of money but this can be used as match funding. Pupils at Hertford Junior have done some fabulous designs of how they would like the Dip to look – they are displayed in Rutters’ window (next to the Employability centre). There is a meeting at St Richards, Beal Crescent on Tuesday 19 November 7.30pm. This will be an opportunity to talk about plans for the Dip and Crestway, as well as other local community projects.  All are welcome.

Thursday 18th July – 4.30 to 7.30pm

Activities and entertainment for all ages.

Explore the butterfly haven, go pond dipping & see the bees. Watch the play in the woods, add your creation to the art installation.

Listen to music from the bands of Jam Brighton. Stock up at the Farmers’ Market. Enjoy local organic food and drink. Browse the charity and trade stalls and find out about local environmental groups.

aoh logoAs part of the citywide Festival of Artists’ Open Houses this May, local Hollingdean artists are exhibiting again.  All houses are open on Saturdays and Sundays in May. Entry free!
“Printhouse” at 52 Hollingbury Park Avenue is open 11-5, showing lithographs, etchings and woodcuts by seven artists.
“Art@ 73, Nick Orsborn & guests” is at 73 Stanmer Villas, with Nick’s famed Cicada jewellery, plus paintings, prints, ceramics, glass, fabric arts and much more.
“The Ceramic House” next door at 75 Stanmer Villas with work by J Kay Aplin and guests. These two houses are open 11-6 and also Bank Holiday 7th May.
