house of moneyHousing Benefit is changing for ‘working-age’ people from 1 April 2013. ‘Working age’ means anyone under 61 as at April 2013. The government is introducing a ‘size criteria’ which will limit how many bedrooms your family will receive benefit for. If you have more bedrooms than the government say you need, your benefit will be reduced. The amount of the reduction will depend on how many extra bedrooms you have.

Brighton & Hove City Council have produced a guide (PDF) with detailed information plus links and phone numbers for tenants.  There is also guidance and information on the council’s website.
