The council is proposing a 50% cut in its community funding in the new year. This will badly affect all the hard work and projects that have been delivered so successfully in the area. News from Liz Lee (Community Development Worker) - Just to let you know we have been successful in our bid to Community Spaces for £49,999 for the skatepark.
There is a meeting next Tuesday 17 August at 6.00pm at the Community Centre when the person who has been commissioned to do the drawings will meet the skaters. As you know we have the design for the skatepark, it just needs to be adjusted to fit into the new space. Hope to see you there.
Good news from Liz Lee– she received a letter today (29 June) to say that the skate park project has been awarded £14,800 from the Youth Capital Fund. The letter says “we were very impressed with the hard work that you put in to make the bid”, so well done Luke, Max and James.
The bid was for £20,000 but considering the number of organisations who applied, it’s a real result. We will look to apply for the remaining £5,200.
We are still waiting to hear from Community Spaces (the bid there is for £50K) – the fact that we have secured the Youth Capital Grant will certainly help our case when they consider our application.
The application to Community Spaces for£50,000
towards for a new skatepark in Hollingdean will be sent off on 29 May. We won’t hear if we have been successful for two to three months.
At the end of April four young people, Luke, James, Max and Giuseppe got together to write an application to the Youth Capital Fund for £20,000 towards the new skatepark. Their application must have been good as they were invited along to answer questions from a youth panel – they only had 15 minutes but they did really well and got over all the main points about the project. We should hear if we have been successful in about a month.

The next Hollingdean News AGM is on Thursday 3rd March 7:00 – 8:30pm (venue to be confirmed).
